The boat ramps at Des Plaines are open from mid-April through October.

The Heidecke Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area is located southeast of Morris, IL, about a 40-minute drive from Kankakee. This is a great place to hunt waterfowl and catch trophy-sized bass! Only hunting and fishing boats are permitted here, so you will be in good company. Watersports and personal watercraft are not allowed, and the lake has a peaceful atmosphere.

The Mazonia-Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area is located on Braidwood Lake, only a 30-minute drive from Kankakee. Because the area can be prone to high winds, boats with a minimum length of 14 feet are recommended here. That said, this is one of the most popular places to hunt and fish in northeast Illinois, and for good reason! Braidwood Lake supports an abundance of bass, bluegill, sunfish, catfish, and bullhead.

William G Stratton State Park is located on the Illinois River in Morris, IL, about an hour's drive from Kankakee. If you want to try your hand at watersports, this is the place to go! The park is a popular destination for water skiing, and it also features a PWC launch area.
